SAINT-GOBAIN to launch ITS first LOW-CARBON
STONE WOOL INSULATION plant in the UK
Saint-Gobain has announced the launch of a new low-carbon stone wool
insulation plant in the UK, which will be located on a site owned by the Group
in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, and is expected to begin production in
2027.
The facility will initially produce 50,000 tonnes per year of high-performance
stone wool insulation for the UK market with the potential to double its
output to 100,000 tonnes per year.
The new manufacturing facility will benefit from cutting-edge technology,
including a fully electric furnace, powered by renewable electricity. This
flagship investment will help customers reduce the embodied carbon of
construction projects by lowering the CO(2) (scope 1 and 2) footprint of stone
wool insulation 1 . It will help meet the country's growing demand for both
stone wool and low-carbon solutions.
New low-carbon stone wool manufacturing further reinforces Saint-Gobain's
comprehensive offer to customers in the UK that includes fully tested systems
incorporating the Group's existing plasterboard, construction chemicals,
glazing, insulation and steel frame structural systems. Together, these
solutions for light and sustainable construction make Saint-Gobain the
undisputed leader in building envelopes in the UK and will contribute to
driving further growth.
This project is part of Saint-Gobain's commitment to achieving net zero carbon
emissions by 2050.
