Parties in Congo conflict need to negotiate, says ICG

BERLIN, Feb 19 (Reuters) - The International Contact
Group (ICG) for the Great Lakes said on Wednesday it was
extremely concerned about the situation in eastern Congo and
called upon the parties to prioritize diplomatic and political
engagement as there was no military solution.
"We condemn the serious violations of international
humanitarian law and human rights in the strongest terms," the
Contact Group, chaired by Germany, said in a statement.
All accusations of violations and abuses must be thoroughly
investigated, victims recognized and supported and perpetrators
be held accountable for their crimes, it said.
