SAO PAULO, July 6 (Reuters) - Brazil's Economy Ministry
wants to auction 100% of the federally run post office, known as
Correios, in 2022, the special secretary for privatization at
the ministry told newspaper O Globo in an interview published on
Tuesday.
Diogo Mac Cord told O Globo that the ministry had now
settled on that model for the asset sale, and is waiting on
lawmakers who are expected to vote next week on a bill to allow
the privatization of Correios. Approval of the bill is needed to
sell Correios in an auction planned for March 2022, O Globo
said.
The model to sell Correios is different from the one the
government will use to divest its stake in state-run power
company Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras ELET6.SA , known as
Eletrobras, which will involve a capital markets transaction.
The sale of fuel distribution company Petrobras
Distribuidora BRDT3.SA , a former subsidiary of state-run oil
firm Petroleo Brasileiro SA PETR4.SA , was also done via a
capital markets deal and not an auction.
Brazil's Correios has 13 billion reais ($2.55 billion) in
liabilities, according to development bank BNDES's calculations,
O Globo reported.
