POLITICS

The independence of central banks is essential for monetary stability, Bank of Italy Governor Fabio Panetta said on Tuesday, amid a spat between the Italian government and the European Central Bank over the country's gold reserves.

ECONOMY

ISTAT releases October industrial output data (0900 GMT).

Bank of Italy releases October data on Italian residents deposits with domestic banks, banks lending to non-financial companies and gross bad loans at Italian banks.

DEBT

Treasury sells 9.0 billion euros 12-month BOT bills. Subscriptions close at 1000 GMT.

COMPANIES

Lagfin SCA, the Luxembourg-based holding company that controls the Italian drinks group, is negotiating with the Italian Revenue Agency to settle a tax dispute with a payment of around 400 million euros, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.

As it becomes more likely that the Natixis deal will be shelved, Chief Executive Philippe Donnet has started examining alternative deals to develop the group's asset management business, La Stampa daily reported on Wednesday.

A Monte dei Paschi board meeting, scheduled for December 18, will be a further occasion to discuss the integration of the two banks and by that date MPS hopes to receive a green light from the ECB regarding the change of its bylaws to allow the outgoing board to nominate its successors, ahead of a board renewal in April, Corriere della Sera reported on Wednesday. The daily added, however, that more time could be needed to get an approval from the central bank.

The League party is working to find new sources of funding for next year's budget, and among the "viable options" there is the possibility of increasing the contribution from banks, Armando Siri, a member of the co-ruling League, told la Repubblica in an interview published on Wednesday.

AZIMUT HOLDING AZMT.MI

The Italian asset manager reported on Tuesday net inflows of 889 million euros ($1.03 billion) in November, bringing year-to-date inflows to 18.0 billion euros, and reaffirmed its full-year target of 28-31 billion euros.

ENI ENI.MI, ACEA ACE.MI

The Italian competition authority said on Tuesday it had opened a probe into the acquisition of the energy retail arm of local utility ACEA by Plenitude, the retail and renewables unit of Eni.

Kazakhstan's energy ministry said on Wednesday it would redirect some oil from the giant Kashagan oil field to China after a Ukrainian drone attack on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium's Baltic Sea terminal.

The offshore Kashagan field, one of the world's biggest discoveries in recent decades, is being developed by several energy giants, including Eni, Shell SHEL.L, TotalEnergies TTEF.PA and ExxonMobil XOM.N.

Ukraine is ready to co-produce drones with Italy, sharing know-how and technologies, the country's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha told both la Repubblica and Il Fatto Quotidiano in two separate interviews published on Wednesday, when asked about possible deal with the state-controlled defence group.
