Italy - Factors to watch on November 10

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Monday.

POLITICS

Italy's largest union CGIL said on Friday it would hold a general strike on December 12 to protest against budget plans presented by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's conservative government.

DEBT

The Treasury said on Friday it would sell 8.5 billion euros in 12-month bills at an auction on November 12.

Treasury announces sale of BTP bonds, with relative amounts to be auctioned on November 13.

COMPANIES

The lender is ready to appeal against the regional administrative court ruling in July that led to its decision to drop its takeover bid for Banco BPM BAMI.MI, daily la Repubblica reported on Monday.

The joint venture between Malaysia's Petronas PETR.KL, Enilive and Japan's Euglena 2931.T has started the construction of a new biorefinery in Pengerang, in Malaysia, which will have a processing capacity of up to 650,000 tonnes of renewable feedstock annually, the three companies said on Monday, adding it was due to start operations in the second half of 2028.

The Italian shipbuilder said on Monday it had secured an order for the construction of an ultra-luxury cruise ship for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, owned by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings NCLH.N. It added that the value of the order was in the range of 500 million euros-1 billion euros.

The gaming group said on Monday it had bought 130 million euros of its own shares and is targeting buying up 300 million euros by the end of the year, with another 200 million euros planned in 2026.

The Italian government has given its conditional approval to the sale of the truck-maker to India's Tata Motors TAMO.NS, a parliamentary document showed on Friday.

BANKS

Italian banks support the European Central Bank's digital euro project but want investments required by them to implement it to be staggered over time because the costs are high, a top official of the Italian Banking Association (ABI) said.

The head of Italian banking association ABI on Saturday urged the sector to prepare for the challenges expected next year, when lower interest rates are likely to weigh more heavily.

ENERGY

The Italian government may ask energy companies to help it close the gap that currently exists between the natural gas price on the Italian market and the one traded at the Amsterdam's TTF hub, Il Fatto Quotidiano reported on Sunday, adding this move could be part of a package of measures to reduce energy bills.

Italy's biggest utility said on Friday that its total power generation fell by almost 5% year-on-year in the first nine months of this year, due to a decline in output from gas, coal and hydroelectric plants. In Italy, power generation dropped by nearly 14% year-on-year, while it rose slightly in Spain, according to the group's operating data.

French nuclear group EDF is reviewing its portfolio of assets, including selling parts of its renewables portfolio in the US and Brazil and listing or selling a stake in its Italian utility Edison, Chief Executive Bernard Fontana said in an interview with the Financial Times published on Sunday.
