Axa tops CAC 40 after H1 beat

** Shares in Axa  AXAF.PA  are up 3% and top France's CAC 40
index  .FCHI  after the Europe's second-largest insurer posted a
180% surge in net income as it rebounded from last year's
COVID-19 hit
    ** Axa's results are a clear beat to consensus expectations,
Jefferies says 
    ** The insurer's XL unit's underlying earnings up +40%
(ex-COVID) are a particularly pleasing source of strength, the
brokerage adds 
    ** Axa's company-focused XL Group unit, hit last year by
business interruption and event cancellations claims, has posted
a 619 million euros underlying income from a 843 million loss a

    ** The group itself reports net profit at 3.99 billion euros
vs 1.43 billion euros a year earlier
    ** Shares are up more than 15% this year
