EUROPEAN STOCKS RISE FROM MULTI-MONTH LOWS, TELECOMS TRIP UP
European shares are higher on Friday as oil prices have retreated after rising sharply the day before, as US President Trump signalled an easing of tensions with Iran.
Trump posted on social media that the US would not attack Iran before the US midterm elections next month, easing some concerns about near-term energy supply disruptions.
That's helped sentiment on Friday and pushed European equities higher. The pan-continental STOXX 600 .STOXX is up 1% although heading for a small weekly loss. It dropped to an almost four-month low the day before.
Breadth is positive with over 85% of stocks in the index advancing.
Major bourses in Frankfurt .GDAXI, Paris .FCHI and London .FTSE are up between 0.9% and 1%.
The telecoms sector .SXKP underperforms after SpaceX SPCX.O struck a deal to buy a low band spectrum portfolio in the US, sending shares of US rivals lower. Deutsche Telekom DTEGn.DE, which owns a majority stake in T-Mobile US TMUS.O, is down 7%.
