** Shares in fresh fruits and vegetables producer Dole  DOLE.N 
rise 3.6% to $9.43 in extended trading
    ** Entrepreneur Jan Barta reports a 5.2% stake in Dole as of
June 17, saying the shares were undervalued and represented an
attractive investment opportunity at the time of

    ** Barta is a partner at Pale Fire Capital, a private equity
firm based in the Czech Republic; Pale Fire Capital's portfolio
also includes Groupon  GRPN.O , the operator of its namesake
daily deals website
    ** According to a regulatory filing, Barta intends to engage
in talks with Dole's board, management team and other third
parties regarding means to enhance shareholder value    
    ** Through last close, Dole shares had lost nearly a third
of their value this year
