U.S. stocks were sharply lower on Thursday, dragged down by growth stocks after
dour quarterly results from Meta Platforms, while signs of persistent inflation
dampened hopes of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates anytime soon.  .N 
    
    At 11:32 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was down 1.58% at
37,851.82. The S&P 500  .SPX  was down 1.26% at 5,007.67 and the Nasdaq
Composite  .IXIC  was down 1.72% at 15,443.125.
