Spain imported no Russian LNG in September for first time in 5 years MADRID, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Spain did not import any liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in September for the first time in five years, data from Spanish grid operator Enagas released on Friday showed.
The EU has been reducing Russian fuel imports since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and agreed to ban gas imports by late 2027
Under the plan, all Russian LNG imports will stop from January 1, 2027
Spain's many import terminals and gas infrastructure mean it has become a key entry hub for Russian gas into Europe
Spain's monthly imports of LNG from Russia have fluctuated in 2026, with a significant fall in July and August
The last time Spain did not import any Russian LNG was in September 2021
So far this year, Russian gas accounts for roughly 15% of Spain's gas imports
