EUROPE OFF TO A MIXED START
Monday is off to a mixed start in Europe after a tumultuous weekend that saw fears of a
wider conflict in the Middle East spreading following Iran's attack on Israel.
Euro STOXX 50 futures .STXEc1 are up 0.45% and futures on the DAX are up 0.44%. FTSE 100
futures, however, are down 0.29%.
Iran launched explosive drones and missiles at Israel late on Saturday in retaliation for a
suspected Israeli attack on its consulate in Syria on April 1.
Investors will also be looking for further clues this week from Federal Reserve speakers
after red-hot inflation in the United States caused a rapid reining-in of bets on rate cuts this
year.
Earnings-wise, Monday is still quiet with only Portugal's Galp Energia GALP.LS reporting
first-quarter oil and gas output falling 9% quarter on quarter. More action is expected later in
the week, as heavyweights LVMH LVMH.PA , Nokia NOKIA.HE , Ericsson ERICb.ST , and ASML
ASML.AS are giving their quarterly updates.
There is however, lots of happening in M&A, with BNP Paribas BNPP.PA agreeing to buy
China's Fosun Group's around 9% stake in Belgian insurer Ageas AGES.BR and Italy's Prysmian
PRY.MI acquiring Encore Wire WIRE.O in $4.2 billion deal
