MILAN, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Italy's Eni ENI.MI said on Tuesday its low-carbon unit Plenitude would offer households a 30% discount on its normal fixed electricity and gas rates, with prices locked in for two years.
The move follows a decision by the state-controlled energy group to cap diesel and petrol prices from Monday this week.
Eni said it was "providing further support to
Italian households through the 'Eni for Italy' initiative, aimed at helping citizens cope with high energy prices."
The offer is available from Oct. 1 to customers who sign up by Oct. 24, Eni said in a statement, estimating average savings of €200 per year for households that sign up to the offer for both electricity and gas.
Eni's initiatives are helping to ease pressure on the government, which is seeking resources to shield families and firms from rising costs as the U.S.-Iran conflict drags on.
The discounted power and gas offer could also raise pressure on rival utilities in Italy's highly competitive retail energy market.
