Singapore picks 4 data centre firms for 200 MW capacity boost

Singapore picks 4 data centre firms for 200 MW capacity boost

- Singapore has allocated 200 megawatts of new capacity across four data centre firms as it seeks to bolster its position as a regional hub for artificial intelligence.

  • Digital Realty DLR.N, Equinix EQIX.O, Keppel Data Centres and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres were each given 50 MW of additional capacity, Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority said in a statement on Friday.

  • The four firms have committed to exceed the minimum sustainability requirements and will power more than half of their data centre capacity from green energy sources, it said.

  • Singapore has more than 1.4 gigawatts of capacity for its data centres, which account for about 7% of the city-state's power consumption, a share projected to rise to 12% by 2030, according to IMDA.

  • Singapore faces stiff competition in the sector from neighbouring Malaysia, which replaced it as the region's fastest-growing data centre hub.
