BASF chief says merger with Evonik would be logical and meaningful Oct 28 (Reuters) - A combination between German chemical makers BASF BASFn.DE and Evonik EVKn.DE would be a logical and meaningful step, BASF chief Markus Kamieth told analysts in a post-earnings call on Wednesday.
BASF has increased its takeover offer for Evonik to €24 per share, two people close to the deal told Reuters on Friday.
"We will only pursue a potential transaction if it is value accretive for our shareholders," Kamieth said, adding that the group would not overpay, and that acquisitions were "a could do, not a must do" in its strategy.
