POLITICS

Several U.S. allies, including Italy, said on Monday they had no immediate plans to send ships to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, rebuffing a request by President Donald Trump for military support to keep the vital waterway open.

A "significant Israeli ground offensive" in Lebanon must be averted since it could have devastating humanitarian consequences, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Britain said in a joint statement on Monday.

The Italian lender cranked up the pressure on Commerzbank CBKG.DE to accept merger talks with a low-ball, unsolicited bid on Monday to raise its stake in the German lender above 30%. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reacted saying his government wanted to "preserve Commerzbank's independence."

ENI ENI.MI

The Italian energy group said on Monday it had made two new gas discoveries in Libya totalling more than 1 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) during an ongoing exploration campaign started in recent months.

Camfin, the second‑largest shareholder in the Italian tyremaker, has raised its stake in the company to 25.7% from 25.54%, according to internal dealing notes released on Monday.

Italy's competition authority said on Monday it had given conditional approval to Plenitude, the low-carbon division of energy group Eni, buying some assets from regional utility ACEA.

FERRARI RACE.MI

The Italian luxury sports car maker on Monday ruled out any copyright issues for its forthcoming new electric vehicle, the "Luce", which uses the same nameplate as cars previously sold by Mazda 7261.T.
