The S&P 500 paused on Friday as investors digested a spate of encouraging
economic data that dispelled slowdown concerns and put Wall Street's main
indexes on course for their best weekly performance this year.  .N 
    At 12:48 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was up 0.19% at
40,640.24. The S&P 500  .SPX  was up 0.18% at 5,553.16 and the Nasdaq Composite
 .IXIC  was up 0.28% at 17,644.334.
