Zurich Airport faces fuel shortage: Swiss government approves reserve withdrawals
Zurich Airport faces fuel shortage: Swiss government approves reserve withdrawals ZURICH, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Switzerland authorized withdrawals from mandatory jet fuel reserves to address a looming supply shortage at Zurich Airport FHZN.S, the government said on Thursday.
Disruptions and significant delays in international rail freight transport, particularly from Germany, disrupted supplies of aviation fuel, the government statement said.
Low water levels on the Rhine diverted additional freight traffic onto already heavily used rail lines causing missed deliveries, it added
"Without additional measures, the available stocks at Zurich Airport are insufficient to bridge the gap caused by the missed deliveries," the statement said
From October 15 to November 1, up to 30,000 cubic metres of jet fuel may be withdrawn, about 6.5% of the current mandatory jet fuel reserves
Switzerland's supply of gasoline, diesel, and heating oil has deteriorated compared to the previous week, but remains secure, the government said
