HELSINKI, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Finnish utility Fortum
FORTUM.HE on Tuesday reported a surprise increase in October
to December operating profit, but said its comparable operating
profit declined due to lower hydro and nuclear volumes and
weaker prices.
Operating profit rose to 390 million euros ($401.7 million)
in the fiscal fourth quarter from 376 million a year earlier,
against a median forecast of 335 million euros in a
company-provided poll.
The state-controlled utility's comparable operating profit
for the quarter declined to 257 million euros, missing analysts'
expectations of 280 million euros.
"In the fourth quarter, the Generation segment's comparable
operating profit declined due to lower hydro and nuclear volumes
and lower spot and hedge prices," Fortum CEO Markus Rauramo said
in a statement.
