EUROPEAN STOCKS JOIN EURO LOWER, FRENCH BONDS SELL OFF
European shares are down in early trading, part of a broad cross-asset selloff that's seen the euro fall to its lowest in 16 months on the pound, and French spreads blow out again.
In terms of stock-specific developments, it's the chip complex that's underperforming. BE Semiconductor BESI.AS is down 5.8% and ASM International ASMI.AS down 3.3%, albeit after European tech stocks .SX8P hit a fresh all-time high on Tuesday.
The biggest gainer of the day is French car parts supplier Forvia FRVIA.PA, up 7% after it signed a joint venture deal with Anand Group in India.
But generally we've been seeing selling across Europe. The STOXX 600 is down 0.3% and the blue chip Euro STOXX 50 index is down 0.8%. .STOXX, .STOXX50E
The euro is also down 0.6% on the dollar and 0.3% on the pound, breaking out from the bottom of its range, and French 10-year yields are up 10 basis points. EUR=, EURGBP=, FR10YT=RR
