Fractyl jumps on promising obesity, diabetes therapy trial in mice

** Shares of Fractyl Health GUTS.O rise 18.5% to $9.40
premarket
** Co says its experimental gene therapy RJVA-001 for
diabetes and obesity achieved up to 50% blood sugar lowering and
11% weight loss at 4 weeks in mice vs 32% glucose lowering and
2% weight loss from semaglutide
** Co expects progressing the therapy for FDA clearance for
clinical trials in 2024 and initiating human clinical studies in
2025
** Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Novo Nordisk's
NOVOb.CO blockbuster GLP-1 drugs, Ozempic and Wegovy
** Ozempic is approved treatment for type 2 diabetes, while
Wegovy is approved for obesity and lowering the risk of stroke
and heart attack in overweight adults
** Up to last close, stock down 47.1% since debut on Feb. 2
