Galectin gains after FDA nod for cancer therapy trial

** Shares of Galectin Therapeutics Inc  GALT.O  up ~3% at
$1.67 premarket
    ** Co says it has received approval from U.S. FDA to proceed
with a mid-stage study for its experimental drug, belapectin, in
combination with Merck and Co's  MRK.N  Keytruda to treat
patients with a type of head and neck cancer  urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nGNX9ltHqp
    ** GALT also says it has filed an application with the FDA
for study of belapectin in combination with a checkpoint
inhibitor for treatment of head and neck cancer 
    ** Next steps for oncology program will be to engage
potential partners for collaboration and plan for financing the
trial, which, if successful, could begin next year - GALT 
    ** As of last close, stock was down ~22% YTD
