("G&H" or the "Company")
Prestigious award from the Institute of Physics
Gooch & Housego PLC, the specialist manufacturer of optical components and
systems, announces that it is one of just four companies to receive the
prestigious Innovation Award 2014 from the Institute of Physics. The award
acknowledges Gooch & Housego's Fibre-Q product line which gives customers
greater versatility in the use of lasers.
Lasers are becoming ubiquitous in a wide range of applications today, from
manufacturing smart phones to highly sensitive sensing applications. Gooch &
Housego's Fibre-Q acousto-optic solution allows the rapid electronic control
of the optical properties of a laser beam, enabling precise changes in laser
amplitude, frequency and wavelength that are required for a wide variety of
applications such as material processing, optical sensing and imaging.
Dr Frances Saunders, President of the Institute of Physics, commented:
"Despite being thought useless when discovered more than 50 years ago,
businesses are still finding uses for lasers in the widest range of
industries. Gooch & Housego are a wonderful example of a company that is
driving technology forward to help other companies exploit a founding
innovation, while creating jobs and making a very healthy return for
themselves."
Dr Andrew Robertson, Gooch & Housego's Senior Vice President - Systems
Technology Group, commented:
"For Gooch & Housego, winning this award provides recognition that by using
our expertise in the field of photonics and detailed understanding of optical
material characteristics, we can develop an innovative product with a great
technical competitive advantage that precisely serves the needs of our
customers in a wide variety of applications."
