Video Transcript:

US President Donald Trump has launched a new website aimed at lowering what Americans pay for prescription drugs. Unveiled on Thursday at the White House, TrumpRx.gov promises discounted prices on a range of brand-name medications.

This is a very big deal. People are going to save a lot of money and be healthy. So, we're here this evening to celebrate the launch of one of the most transformative healthcare initiatives of all times.

16 major global drugmakers have signed on to most-favored nation agreements with the Administration, which give them exemption from tariffs. In exchange, Eli Lilly and Denmark's Novo Nordisk are slashing the cost of their blockbuster weight-loss drugs.

Novo Nordisk will be slashing the price, as an example, of Ozempic from more than $1,000 to $199, and the price of Wegovy from more than $1,300 to $199. Nobody can even believe it, a 578% difference.

Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Merck, and GSK have also signed on, offering lower prices on diabetes, heart, fertility, and hepatitis C treatments. Those price drops will also apply to Medicaid. The site is powered by prescription drug savings site GoodRx and directs users to where they can buy the discounted medicines.

We're taking the lowest price paid for drugs. We will pay equal to whatever the lowest price anywhere in the world. That's the price that you're going to be paying. It's a tremendous reduction.

But experts say questions remain about how much Americans will truly save. Since the program targets people not using insurance, purchases mostly won't count toward deductibles. Even the discounted cash prices may also remain too high for many buyers. However, experts say drugmakers stand to gain if the launch enables more direct-to-consumer sales.
