Description: U.S. retail sales rose 3.1% between November 1st and December
24th according to a report from Mastercard. However, that rise was less than
half of last year's increase. The likes of Amazon and Walmart ramped up
promotions throughout November to attract bargain hunters but analysts have
said the discounts were not as deep as last year, when retailers were saddled
with excess stock.
