Nov 13 (Reuters) - Greek oil refiner Helleniq Energy HEPr.AT on Thursday posted a 100% year-on-year surge in its third-quarter adjusted core profit driven by stronger refining margins and record refined products sales.
The group reported adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of 365 million euros ($426 million) in the July to September period, up from 183 million euros in the same period last year.
The profit surge came despite weaker crude prices, as benchmark refining margins more than doubled to $8.5 per barrel from $3.1 per barrel a year earlier, while natural gas and electricity prices were 7% and 30% lower respectively, Helleniq Energy said.
The Athens-listed group also reported record refined product sales of 4.3 million metric tons, supported by high refinery availability and strong exports, which made up nearly half of total sales.
Marketing operations delivered record results as well, with domestic EBITDA up 4% and international up 14%, while the newly consolidated power and gas unit Enerwave contributed 18 million euros in the quarter.
Helleniq Energy's board of directors also approved an interim dividend of 0.20 euros per share for shareholders.
