EUROPE SET FOR POSITIVE START TO THE WEEK
European shares were set for a positive start on Monday and
while big moves in the yen were likely to steal the show in
markets, traders also awaited results from Apple and Amazon and
the Fed's policy decision later this week, as well as monthly
U.S. jobs figures.
EuroSTOXX50 STXEcv1 and FTSE FFIc1 futures gained
0.4-0.5%, closing in on recent peaks, while U.S. futures also
rose slightly, following the tech-led rally on Wall Street on
Friday.
Earnings meanwhile kept flowing in Europe too.
In Spain, some good-looking numbers from banks. BBVA's
BBVA.MC Q1 net profit rose 19% thanks to a solid performance
in Mexico and Spain, while net profit at Unicaja UNI.MC more
than tripled as lending income rose and provisions fell.
Deutsche Bank DBKGn.DE fell around 5% in early trade
after news that a long-running lawsuit could cost Germany's
largest lender up to 1.3 billion euros ($1.39 billion).
Eyes were also on Porsche AG P911_p.DE which reported a
30% drop in Q1 operating profit, citing higher investments in
what the luxury carmaker has called its biggest year of product
launches in history.
In M&A, Blackstone BX.N agreed to buy Hipgnosis SONG.L
for about $1.57 billion, after the private equity giant outbid
rival suitor Concord.
Atos ATOS.PA was another one to watch on news the French
state had made an offer to buy out some of the ailing French IT
firm's key units.
