** Shares of copper miners rise, tracking higher prices of the red metal MET/L

** Benchmark copper CMCU3 on London Metal Exchange up 0.2% at $12,364 a metric ton, after hitting $12,492.50, the highest since March 18

** Copper prices extend gains to hit their highest in two weeks on hopes that the Iran war is close to ending

** U.S.-listed shares of global mining giants Rio Tinto RIO.N up marginally and BHP Group BHP.N rise 1%

** Miners Southern Copper SCCO.N and Freeport-McMoRan FCX.N gains 2.9% and 3.6%, respectively

** Canada's Hudbay Minerals HBM.TO jumps 3.4%, Ero Copper ERO.TO adds 3.4% and Teck Resources TECKb.TO up 2.6%
