Huntington Bancshares' quarterly profit rises on interest income boost
Huntington Bancshares' quarterly profit rises on interest income boost July 23 (Reuters) - Huntington Bancshares HBAN.O reported a rise in second-quarter profit on Thursday, as the regional U.S. lender benefited from increased interest income and fees across all divisions.
Borrowings across the banking industry remained resilient in the quarter even as concerns over the U.S.-Iran conflict grew, with higher oil prices fuelling inflation worries and clouding the outlook for interest rates.
Here are some more details:
Huntington's net interest income, the difference between what a bank earns on loans and pays out on deposits, rose 40% from a year earlier to $2.05 billion in the second quarter.
Average loans and leases increased 42.1% to $189.26 billion and average total deposits increased 36.7% to $223.4 billion.
"Our pipelines are robust as we enter the second half of 2026 and the operating environment remains constructive," CEO Steve Steinour said in a statement.
Noninterest income climbed 67% from a year ago, led by a jump in capital markets and advisory fees.
The bank reported an adjusted net income of $843 million, or 39 cents per share, in the three months ended June 30, compared with $539 million, or 35 cents per share, a year earlier.
