EU-China deal on hybrid cars not addressing rising imports of car parts from China, FIEV says
EU-China deal on hybrid cars not addressing rising imports of car parts from China, FIEV says PARIS, Oct 14 (Reuters) - A deal between the European Union and China to curb imports of Chinese hybrid cars is "a positive step", but does not address rising imports to the bloc of car parts and components from China, the chairman of the French car suppliers association (FIEV) said on Wednesday.
"It is a positive step, but it's not enough to solve our problem. The agreement protects manufacturers but leaves the door open to the importation of parts," Jean-Louis Pech told a press conference.
Imports of parts and components from China to Europe have risen by 67 percent between 2021 and 2025 and car suppliers are pressing for public incentives in Europe to be tied to a mandatory European content level on car parts.
The European Union recently announced a deal with China to curb imports of Chinese hybrid vehicles into the bloc.
