    POLITICS
    Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni accused Russia of "offending
the entire Italian nation" on Friday as she stood by comments by
the Italian president that compared modern-day Russia to Nazi
Germany.
    
    Meloni is among European leaders expected to attend a
meeting in Paris on Monday called by French President Emmanuel
Macron to discuss Ukraine.
        
    ECONOMY
    
    Higher U.S. tariffs on European exports are likely to have
little effect on euro area inflation, ECB Governing Council
member Fabio Panetta said, adding the main risk remained that of
medium-term inflation falling below 2%.
    
    Italy's cabinet will discuss on Monday a package of measures
to help families and firms tackle rising energy prices, Foreign
Minister Antonio Tajani said on Friday.
    
    Baku Steel Company and Jindal Steel International have
raised their bids for Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI), formerly known
as Ilva, the Italian government said on Saturday, making them
the frontrunners in the bidding for the plant.
       
    ISTAT releases December foreign trade data (0900 GMT).
    
    DEBT
    Treasury launches eight-year 'BTP Piu' bonds dedicated to
retail investors with an early redemption option after the
fourth year; ends on Feb. 21, barring an early closure.
    
    COMPANIES
    
    TELECOM ITALIA  TLIT.MI , POSTE ITALIANE  PST.MI 
    State-backed financial conglomerate Poste Italiane has
decided to buy the stake in Telecom Italia (TIM) held by state
lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), it said in a statement
on Saturday.
    In offloading its 9.8% TIM shareholding to Poste, CDP will 
acquire Poste's 3.78% stake in Italian payments group Nexi
 NEXII.MI .
    Italy has put on hold plans by private equity fund CVC
 CVC.AS  and French telecoms operator Iliad to buy into the
telecom group and consolidate the country's telecoms sector,
three sources close to the matter told Reuters.
            
    ENI  ENI.MI , ACEA  ACE.MI 
    ENI's renewable energy unit Plenitude is considering the
acquisition of a retail unit owned by utility Acea, Milano
Finanza reported on Saturday.
    A purchase of Acea Energia would value the company at
between 500 and 700 million euros, the report said.
        
    ENEL  ENEI.MI  
    The Italian region of Tuscany is set to extend Enel's
geothermal energy licences by 20 years to 2046 in exchange for
nearly 3 billion euros of investments, three sources said on
Friday.
          
    LEONARDO  LDOF.MI 
    The European Commission will propose exempting defence from
EU limits on government spending, the head of the EU executive,
Ursula von der Leyen, said on Friday, amid pressure from U.S.
President Donald Trump for Europe to finance its own defence.
    
    MONTE DEI PASCHI  BMPS.MI , MEDIOBANCA  MDBI.MI 
    MPS Chairman Nicola Maione said on Saturday he was confident
about the outcome of the Tuscan bank's bid for rival Mediobanca,
as its "great industrial rational" can be appreciated by the
target bank's shareholders. When asked about a potential
increase of the price of bid, he said "I don't know, we'll see".
    
    BANCO BPM  BAMI.MI , UNICREDIT  CRDI.MI 
    Banco BPM Chairman Massimo Tononi said on Saturday there
presently were "no grounds" for talks with UniCredit as its
all-share bid for Banco BPM could not be considered as "real"
with a price that is well below Banco BPM's share price. "We
will see what they'll do in the coming weeks, and based on that,
we will assess whether a more in-depth dialogue could be
appropriate. At the moment, the conditions are not there", he
said.
    
    UNIPOL  UNPI.MI , BPER  EMII.MI  
    The insurer has no plans to own more than 20% of BPER after
the proposed merger of the Italian bank with rival Banca
Popolare di Sondrio  BPSI.MI , Unipol Chief Executive Matteo
Laterza said. Unipol is the main shareholder in both banks. 
    
    JUVENTUS  JUVE.MI  
    Shares in Italy's top-flight soccer club rose on Friday,
after cryptocurrency firm Tether said it had become a minority
shareholder, without disclosing the size of its stake. The
Agnelli family holding Exor  EXOR.AS , which holds a 64% stake
in the club, said it did not sell any shares to Tether.
        
    INTERPUMP  ITPG.MI 
    Shares in the high-pressure pump maker fell more than 16% on
Friday after it reported a 14.9% decline in annual core profit
and said it faces an uncertain business climate this year.
    
    LAZIO  LAZI.MI  
    A last-gasp goal by substitute Boulaye Dia earned Lazio a
2-2 draw against visitors Napoli on Saturday.
