Unipol chair pledges to keep MPS headquarters in Siena
Unipol chair pledges to keep MPS headquarters in Siena MILAN, Aug 28 (Reuters) - The headquarters of Banca Monte dei Paschi (MPS) BMPS.MI would remain in Siena if Intesa Sanpaolo's ISP.MI takeover of the Tuscan lender were to go through, Unipol Chairman Carlo Cimbri said in an interview published on Friday.
As part of the takeover plan, Intesa would sell on the MPS brand and around half of the Tuscan lender's branches to Unipol, which would combine those assets with medium-sized Italian lender BPER, where Unipol is the largest shareholder.
Cimbri also told Il Sole 24 Ore financial daily that said no dismissals were envisaged at MPS as part of the deal, adding however that staff numbers would be streamlined through agreements with trade unions.
