Fertilizer makers have bumper Q1 as Ukraine crisis hammers supply

** Fertilizer and agricultural chemicals companies among the
stand-out percentage gainers on the S&P 500 index  .SPX  in the
first quarter on the Ukraine-Russia war 
    ** Mosaic  MOS.N  surged ~69% and was the second-biggest S&P
500 gainer after Occidental Petroleum  OXY.N , while CF
Industries  CF.N  was ranked seventh on the benchmark index,
following a 46% jump
    ** MOS and CF saw their best qtrs since 2007 and 2010,
respectively
    ** Canada's Nutrien  NTR.TO , the world's No.1 fertilizer
maker, soared 36% and had its best quarter since it went public
in 2018
    ** Intrepid Potash  IPI.N  topped peers, skyrocketing 92%
    ** Russia and its ally Belarus are the second- and
third-biggest suppliers of potash, a key ingredient in
fertilizers; Russia is also a major supplier of natural gas used
in making fertilizers
    ** Restrictions on the two countries have stoked fertilizer
supply concerns and imperiled the world's food systems
