Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is poised for good news on Monday, when the national statistics agency is expected to certify that the budget deficit fell last year within the EU's 3% of gross domestic product ceiling for the first time since 2019.

Britain on Monday awarded a 1 billion pound ($1.35 billion)contract to the Italian defence contractor to build a new fleet of military helicopters, securing 3,300 jobs at the company's manufacturing site in Yeovil, southwest England.

Italy's second-largest lender in January withdrew an appeal lodged with the European Union General Court against a European Central Bank request that it exit Russia, a document published on Friday showed.

CEO Andrea Orcel's maximum remuneration for 2026 will remain in line with 2025 at 16.4 million euros, including a base salary of 4.15 million euros and up to 11.8 million euros in variable compensation payable entirely in shares over eight years, according to the bank's documents.

BANCA MONTE DEI PASCHI BMPS.MI, MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI

Shares in Monte dei Paschi di Siena and merchant bank Mediobanca fell sharply on Friday after the Tuscan bank presented a multi-year strategy for the combined group, unsettling investors with a lack of detail on the terms of the full merger.

The new strategy the Italian asset manager will unveil on March 4 will include guidance on the benefits of a greater use of artificial intelligence, Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Sunday.

PIRELLI PIRC.MI

Italy is considering measures to curb Sinochem's influence in the Italian tyremaker, including sterilising the voting rights, transferring the Chinese stake to an Italian entity, or employing a blind trust, Il Sole 24 Ore daily reported on Saturday.

Meetings are expected in Rome in coming days, with Pirelli's top management set to participate, the newspaper added.

EDISON EDNn.MI

France's EDF is moving ahead with a possible listing or sale of a stake in its Italian unit Edison, three sources with knowledge of the matter said, despite the regulatory uncertainty brought about by Italy's new energy-sector decree.

JP Morgan on Monday raised its rating on the Italian energy group to 'overweight' from 'underweight' and increased the target price to 22 euros from 17.5.

Iren has appointed Rothschild and Intesa Sanpaolo's unit IMI to manage the sale of its portfolio of solar and wind power plants, Il Sole 24 Ore daily reported on Saturday, citing Mergermarket.

Eni's Plenitude, A2A, Dolomiti Energia and the Tuscan utility Plures could be in the running, the daily added. The assets have a total capacity of over 200 megawatts and the sale process is expected to begin in March.

The Italian gas distribution company said on Monday it had completed the divestment of four concession areas (ATEMs) as required by the country's competition authority, for 108.5 million euros ($127.28 million).

The Italian yachting and ship-making group said on Monday that, having incurred extra budget costs in meeting its orders, it would be rescheduling its budget approval timetable and was talking to unions, banks and other stakeholders about the situation.

It said it was conducting independent due diligence to assess the extent of the extra costs.

Juventus scored a last-gasp equaliser to draw 3-3 away to Roma on Sunday, but remains four points adrift of the Champions League zone.

Lazio lost 2-0 to Torino in Turin on Sunday and is in 10th place in Serie A.
