June 17 (Reuters) - Aerovate Therapeutics AVTE.O said
on Monday it is shutting down the late-stage study testing its
experimental lung disorder drug after it failed in a mid-stage
trial, sending shares down 91% in premarket trading.
Data from the mid-stage study of the drug, called AV-101,
showed it did not help improve blood flow from the lungs to the
heart in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
PAH is caused by a constriction of arteries in the lungs,
leading to high blood pressure and symptoms such as shortness of
breath, chest pain and dizziness.
The drug also did not show any meaningful improvements
across several secondary goals of the study, Aerovate said.
Based on the data, Aerovate said it is stopping enrollment
and shutting down the late-stage and long-term extension studies
for the drug.
Detailed data from the mid-stage study will be released at a
later date, Aerovate said.
