HOW TO PLAY THE 'LAGGARD TRADE' GOING INTO 2025
With the turn of the year getting closer, investors are screening the market for possible
opportunities that could become successful trades during 2025.
One way of doing so is through the so called "laggard trade", in which stocks that performed
poorly in the previous year tend to become leaders in the first months of the new year.
Goldman Sachs believes investors need to be more selective in picking these laggards this
time around given their choppy performance in recent years.
As a results, the U.S. bank has applied a fundamental analysis approach to single out its
picks. Its highlights are Zegna JN0.F , BP BP.L , Straumann STMN.S (differentiated buy
ideas); Neste NESTE.HE , Glencore GLEN.L , DHL DHLn.DE (out of consensus buys); Infineon
IFXGn.DE , LVMH LVMH.PA , JCDecaux JCDX.PA (growth at reasonable price); Heineken HEIN.AS ,
JD Sports JD.L , Edenred EDEN.PA (FCF improvers); along with BESI BESI.AS , L'Oreal
OREP.PA and Sika SIKA.S (quality laggards).
