    Italy reported 256 coronavirus-related deaths on Monday
against 144 the day before, the health ministry said, while the
daily tally of new infections fell to 5,948 from 9,148.

    Italy posted a state sector budget deficit of 12.5 billion
euros ($15.1 billion) in April compared to a shortfall of 17.9
billion euros in the same month last year, the Treasury said in

    Italy is considering extending to mid-2022 tax breaks which
are expected to spur tie-ups in its fragmented banking sector,
while also boosting the size of the incentives, a draft decree
seen by Reuters showed on Monday.
    The draft bill also reintroduces for the current year tax
benefits for companies shedding impaired loans which had expired

    TELECOM ITALIA (TIM)  TLIT.MI 
    A deal which will give Italian state lender CDP a majority
stake in Open Fiber should ease talks over a long-delayed merger
of the broadband firm's network assets with those of Telecom
Italia, the CEO of the Italian phone group said on Monday.

    Industry-wide car sales in Italy jumped 3277% in April on an
annual basis, the transport ministry said on Monday. Stellantis
held 40.27% of the Italian car market, according to Reuters
