IN THE 2024 U.S. ELECTION, THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
This year's election will be the first in 30 years in which Baby Boomers are not the
majority voting bloc, according to Bank of America. In its weekly "Flow Show" report on investor
capital flows, the bank notes that with 65 million of them, Gen Z and Millenials comfortably
outnumber the Boomers, with 50 million voters in that category.
The most important issues for U.S. voters aged 18-29 are: inflation/healthcare/housing,
while the least important are: student loans, Bank of America said. Inflation and the cost of
healthcare and housing are "politically unpopular for most important voters," the bank said.
"Investors should not assume perpetual fiscal excess in our view," the report said.
A recent poll by Reuters/IPSOS showed most registered U.S. voters, when asked what their top
priorities are, cited stagnating incomes and rising prices.
President Joe Biden, 81, and former President Donald Trump, 78, are essentially tied in
national opinion polls with fewer than five months until the Nov. 5 election.
The two, also the oldest candidates ever to run for U.S. president, meet on June 27 for a
televised debate.
