Brazil opens $1.6 billion in extraordinary credit for airlines
Brazil opens $1.6 billion in extraordinary credit for airlines SAO PAULO, June 19 (Reuters) - Brazil's government issued an executive order opening 8 billion reais ($1.56 billion) in extraordinary credit for airlines operating in the country, according to a publication in the official gazette on Friday.
The measure was signed by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Thursday.
The credit is classified as extraordinary, meaning it falls outside Brazil's primary balance target for 2026.
The Ministry of Ports and Airports will manage the reimbursable loans to regular air service providers.
The government had announced the credit line in April as part of a set of measures to curb the impacts of the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran.
