STOXX PAUSES, DEFENCE KEEPS RUNNING
Shares in Europe got off to a rater uneventful start on
Monday, with the STOXX 600 .STOXX pausing for breath after a
quarter of gains that has led the index to new lifetime highs,
reflecting bets on interest rate cuts later this year.
The region-wide benchmark fell 0.1% in early deals and other
country indices were also little changed. Similarly muted were
sectoral moves, while in single stocks, Direct Line DLGD.L
stood out, falling by 12% after Belgian rival Ageas AGES.BR
abandoned its pursuit for the British insurance company.
A gauge of European aerospace and defence stocks .SXPARO
rose 0.8% to a new record high, setting itself for ten
consecutive positive sessions and bringing year-to-date gains to
near 30%. Hensoldt HAGG.DE , Dassault AM.PA , Rheinmetall
RHMG.DE and Leonardo LDOF.MI all rose more than 2.5%.
