U.S. stocks rose modestly on Wednesday, boosted by technology shares and an
Amazon-led jump in retailers, helping pull the S&P 500 from the brink of bear
market territory following a few punishing sessions.  .N 
    At 10:40 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was down 0.09 percent
at 21,771.87. The S&P 500  .SPX  was up 0.16 percent at 2,354.75 and the Nasdaq
Composite  .IXIC  was up 0.64 percent at 6,232.553.
