MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI, BANCA GENERALI BGN.MI

Mediobanca's decision to delay the shareholder vote on its bid for Banca Generali prevented a likely defeat from shareholders who oppose the deal and had beefed up their holdings in recent weeks, four sources close to the matter said.

(*) Banca Generali's board met late on Monday to assess whether Mediobanca's delay of the vote would affect the validity of its offer, Il Sole 24 Ore newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Italian market authority Consob is also examining Mediobanca's decision to postpone the shareholder vote to assess whether it is in line with the country's takeover rules, the daily added.

(*) ENI ENI.MI

Malaysian state energy company Petronas said on Tuesday it expects to take one to two years to set up a planned joint venture with Italian energy group Eni on upstream assets in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said the 50-50 joint venture would generate cashflow from its producing assets and will self-finance its investments.

Descalzi added the Israel-Iran conflict had not led to a loss in oil production, and that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries still has spare production capacity.

(*) MAIRE MTCM.MI

The Italian engineering group said on Tuesday it had set up a joint venture announced last December with nuclear company Newcleo aimed at developing power stations based on advanced modular reactors.

Under the agreement, Maire's unit Nextchem holds a 60% stake in the joint venture Nextcleo, with the remaining 40% belonging to Newcleo.

Italian specialty lender Banca Ifis has raised the non-waivable minimum threshold for its offer for digital bank Illimity to 60% of the share capital from 45%, it said on Tuesday.

Banca Ifis added it had not extended the offer period, which will end on June 27.
