** Shares of cancer drug developer MAIA Biotechnology
MAIA.A rise 26.9% to $1.6
** Co announced new interim data from its ongoing mid-stage
study testing its experimental drug THIO in patients with a type
of lung cancer
** MAIA says the latest data shows that patients that were
given lower doses of the experimental drug before Regeneron's
REGN.O already approved cancer drug, Libtayo, showed disease
control rate that was "well sustained compared to previous
scans"
** Disease control rate is the percentage of patients with
complete or partial reduction in cancer post-treatment
** The study is evaluating whether low doses of THIO, when
given before Libtayo, could enhance and prolong immune response
in patients with advanced lung cancer who did not respond or
developed resistance to prior treatment
** THIO is an investigational drug that targets a type of
protein called telomeres, which plays a fundamental role in the
survival of cancer cells and their resistance to current
therapies
** The mid-stage trial, known as THIO-101, is expected to be
completed by end of this year
** Stock has fallen 70.4% in the last 12 months
