India's Mankind Pharma posts quarterly profit growth on chronic drug demand
India's Mankind Pharma posts quarterly profit growth on chronic drug demand July 30 (Reuters) - Indian drugmaker Mankind Pharma MNKI.NS reported a near 30% rise in first-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by growth in chronic therapies and a recovery in its acute diseases drugs business.
Here are the details:
Consolidated net profit rose to 5.68 billion rupees ($59.40 million) for the quarter ended June 30, from 4.38 billion rupees a year earlier.
Revenue from operations increased 12.9% year-on-year to 40.31 billion rupees, while expenses rose 6.3%.
Domestic revenue, excluding consumer healthcare, grew 11%.
Domestic growth was led by a 15.8% increase in the chronic, cardiac and anti-diabetes segment.
Growth in gastrointestinal and gynaecology therapies helped drive a recovery in the acute diseases drugs business, the company said.
HDFC Securities had forecast healthy June-quarter revenue growth for Indian pharmaceutical companies, driven by strong demand in the domestic market.
Mankind Pharma makes prescription medicines across chronic and acute therapies, and consumer healthcare products including Manforce condoms, Prega News pregnancy test kits and Gas-O-Fast antacid tablets.
