United Therapeutics soars after lung disease drug meets main study goal

** Shares of United Therapeutics UTHR.O gain 43.88% to $438.50 in premarket trading

** Company says its drug, Tyvaso, met the main goal showing improvement in lung function in a late-stage trial

** The trial studied the use of nebulized Tyvaso inhalation solution for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis - a disease that affects the tissue surrounding the air sacs, or alveoli, in the lungs

     ** Company intends to use the data from both the trial and another ongoing study to support its application to add IPF to the labeled indications for nebulized Tyvaso

** Shares of MannKind Corp MNKD.O, which collaborates with UTHR for a dry powder version of Tyvaso, rise 35.95% to $6.24 before the bell

** Up to last close, UTHR stock down 13.6% YTD
