Marathon restarts FCCU at Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas, sources say HOUSTON, June 16 (Reuters) - Marathon Petroleum MPC.N completed restarting the gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit at its 631,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas City, Texas, said people familiar with plant operations on Tuesday.
Marathon was performing maintenance on the system meant to trip the 140,000-bpd FCCU offline in the event of a malfunction, but failed to disengage a redundant system that automatically takes the unit out of operation in a malfunction, the sources said. That redundant system took the unit offline because of the maintenance work on the first system.
