Oil companies gain on rising crude prices as Trump and Iran minister's comments dent peace hopes

** S&P 500 energy index .SPNY up 1.1%, tracking higher crude prices

** Brent crude futures LCOc1 climb 2.7% to $108.64/barrel; U.S. West Texas Intermediate CLc1 rises 3.01% to $104.22/barrel

** Crude prices gain after comments from U.S. President Donald Trump and Iran's foreign minister further dented hopes of a deal to end ship attacks and seizures around the Strait of Hormuz

** Energy majors Exxon Mobil XOM.N and Chevron CVX.N gain 1.7% and 1.2%, respectively

** Valero Energy VLO.N, Phillips 66 PSX.N, Devon Energy DVN.N and Occidental Petroleum OXY.N rise between 2.3% and 2.9% - among the top movers on the energy index

** ConocoPhillips COP.N gains 1.7%, Diamondback Energy FANG.O up 1.2%, APA Corp APA.O rises 1.6%

** Refiner Marathon Petroleum MPC.N adds 1.9%
