The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq edged lower on Tuesday, bogged down by declines in the communication services and technology sectors, while investors digested retail sales figures that kick off a series of economic datasets through the week. .N

At  10:30 EST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was up 0.56% at 50,417.58. The S&P 500 .SPX was up 0.24% at 6,981.51 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was up 0.18% at 23,281.34.
