MADRID, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Spain's Melia Hotels reported on Thursday a 2% rise in third-quarter core profit, driven by strong revenues from its luxury holiday resorts in Spain even as growth in tourist arrivals to the world's second-most visited country has slowed down.
The country's largest hotel chain said its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) reached over 192 million euros ($224 million), with revenues rising 6% to 617 million euros during the peak season.
Analysts surveyed by LSEG, on average, had expected an EBITDA of 191 million euros and sales of 608 million euros.
Melia's consolidated profit edged 1.2% higher to 89.2 million euros, the company said.
It generated 5.6% more revenue per room than a year ago thanks mainly to robust demand for premium rooms at its resorts in Spain, where growth in tourist spending has outpaced that of the number of arrivals this year.
Melia expects to end the year with a mid-single-digit increase in average revenue per room.
It has opened 15 new luxury hotels so far this year, bringing its total to 368 as of September.
