BUDAPEST, May 15 (Reuters) - Hungary will release 575 million litres of fuel from strategic reserves to ensure security of supply at capped prices, a government decree said in its official journal late on Thursday.
The previous government led by Viktor Orban released 250,000 tons of crude oil from strategic reserves in February after oil flows stopped via the Druzhba pipeline from Russia.
The government is releasing 150 million litres of 95-octane petrol and 425 million litres of diesel from strategic reserves.
The decree said that the international situation affecting the fuel market made it necessary to release more of the reserves to ensure fuel supply at capped prices.
Strategic reserves will be available until June 30.
Fuel released from strategic reserves can only be sold at capped prices to consumers in Hungary.
The previous government announced a fuel price cap for petrol and diesel in March as the war in Iran sent oil prices higher.
Prime Minister Peter Magyar had announced on Wednesday that the government would release more of the reserves.
