The benchmark S&P 500 .SPX and the Nasdaq .IXIC touched record highs on
Wednesday after a lower-than-expected increase in a key inflation metric
buttressed hopes that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates this year.

    At 12:19 p.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was up 0.58% at
39,786.94. The S&P 500  .SPX  was up 0.82% at 5,289.89 and the Nasdaq Composite
 .IXIC  was up 0.97% at 16,672.145.
